The Clinch Coalition
Let High Knob Stand!

Tourism

The Clinch Coalition was formed as a reactive organization, fighting against economic injustice.  Our tourism campaign is an example of our more recent program goals which offer proactive solutions to our region's problems --- in other words, offer the carrot instead of the stick.  The goal of our tourism campaign is to help High Knob achieve its potential as a premier tourism destination and, in the process supporting the development of low impact and sustainable economic development.

Volunteers braved snow to work on the Chief Benge Scout Trail in April.

Our primary tourism focus has been the renovation of the Chief Benge Scout Trail, a long distance trail running through the heart of the National Forest.  This trail project has already pulled the community together, bringing in dozens of likely and unlikely partners who are eager to rebuild the trail.

Even after a long day of clearing downed trees, doing tread work, blazing, and trail rerouting on the Chief Benge in November, this crew still had enough energy left to "kick up a leg!"

We are also taking part in a community-wide task force to rebuild the High Knob tower and are working with the Scott County and Wise County tourism authorities to highlight the National Forest's facilities.

When we're not working, we like to get out and have fun together. Join our email list for more information on our hikes and events. To join, send an email to shbrooks@mounet.com.
